Trevecca Nazarene University softball (3-3) wrapped up the Music City Invitational, where they faced the University of Maryville (6-7) and fell 5-2 .

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams, with Maryville now having the 1-0 advantage in the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Maryville struck quickly in the first inning by scoring two runs on three hits to try and put the Trojans on their heels. However, the Trojans matched with two runs of their own to tie the game. Gracie Kirby hit a two-RBI single that brought in Sydney McCormick and Anna Bennett to make it 2-2. After the first innings, the scoring came to a halt as both teams struggled to score. But in the seventh inning, Maryville broke through with 3 runs to take an 5-2 lead. The Trojans got runners on base in the bottom of the ninth but weren't able to score.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES:

  • Gracie Kirby went 2-3 with two RBIs.
  • Jessie Brown went 3-4.
  • Anna Bennett went 2-3 with one runs scored.
  • Sydney McCormick went 1-4 with one run scored.
UP NEXT

The Trojans will travel to Owensboro to take part in the Blue Bridge Classic, where they will face Quincy University (1-2) and the University of Illinois Springfield (5-4) on Friday at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, respectively. The Trojans took the only meeting against Quincy, an 11-0 win in five innings on February 26, 2022, also at the Blue Bridge Classic. Illinois Springfield took the only meeting against the Trojans on February 15, 2019, in a 12-4 win in six innings.
